Abandoning The Crop?

    Welker Farms

What should have been two weeks worth of pea harvest turned into just a few days. Once we hit the hailed ground it was apparent attempting to harvest what was left didn't make sense. Beastbine had a potential nasty breakdown but thankfully it was caught and repaired in time!

Not flashing large stacks of cash like a rap video this year... I feel sorrow for the farmer that isn't able to buy new toys because of a poor harvest.

Grandpa Don is out of the biz and nothing moves forward. Why don't you have a low level camera on the head with grain height sensors adjusting automatically. Nerds trying to get robots to change diapers while they leave such a perfect techno-fix job like controlling the cutter unfixed.

Such a high risk industry (yet so needed) and all the government regulations involved don't help either :( My hat's off to all of the farmers of the land who labor to keep food on the tables of the world... we'd all perish if it weren't for you -- May God bless you all immensely with perpetual bumper crops to come !!! {liked and subscribed} :)

That s WHY you always take the old part with you WHEN POSSIBLE which of course it rarely is . Its always pushing to get there before they close etc. Thats also WHY there is an updated bearing because the originals didn't hold up!!

0:45 Nick, buddy, you just described a pull-type combine. We ran an International 914 behind a Farmall 1206 for almost 30 years. Super reliable, cheap to run, and it was indeed easy to see what was going into the header. Modern machines of course would run circles around it, and you don't get the data, but it was great for what it was.

Dry up north to . Some of the wheat and canola looks ok but peas are not worth a dam . Saw some canola cut still in bloom , I think it was to try to get rid of weeds and the crop wasn't worth harvesting . Lots of poor weedy crop going into a silage pit

It’s tough on farmers when they loose crops to weather, insects, or anything else. When I was 17 we lost our entire silage crop for our dairy operation to army worms. They moved across our farm so fast that by the time we noticed them it was already too late to save any of the crop. I’m sure we didn’t have crop insurance. I don’t know if there was even such a thing as crop insurance back in the 1970’s. Needless to say we had to sell out. That was a very tough period in my life. We were able to keep the land but everything that wasn’t tied down was sold. It was a disgrace to see what our cattle and equipment sold for.

You could have a cab over like a 70's Brockway. Instead maybe there is a kit that runs wires for lights and 4 or 6 cameras for that head. It would have to be raised so product does not block it. Good idea.

Any loss hurts and like tires and other upgrades are then diminished and where you adjust it from is your deal, your call when to stop. Frustrating at best so taking your word for it that all this dry weather was really a bad thing... so can you irrigate this soil and I am thinking make it so next year there shouldn't this type of thing happening again.... at least pick out the rock thats taking out machines. I'm glad that I haven't ever had to do something like this before

Maybe yed, but if you think, did he get the bolts fit / did they get the combine fixed? Yes? That is all that matters. Sure we do things many times the "wrong way" in the eyes of the pros of that field but like said, its the result that matters. Combine fixed and in the field working asap. If there is some little wrong kind of chatter in the mix, dont care..

People don't realize how much time, money, and stress farming causes people from the city need to realize the things farmers go through so they can have the food they need to survive and they need to stop spreading rumors about us when they have no idea what is going on and take the facks not the lies other people tell them to believe. Take the info from a farm, farm helper, or even a farm study.

Claas is working on solid mass detecting radar for combine headers. You probably can't afford it right now. Its still highly prototype as it can't tell the difference between a rock and gravel yet, so I'd probably skip 99.44% of Mike Mitchell's fields.
