Rocks Break Everything!

Rocks! Everywhere! Normally not an issue but being that the crop is unusually short our combine headers are taking a beating. There is nothing we can do other than keep fixing when things break. Overall our machines have been running well with minimal breakdowns. Keep pressing on!

Nick it's priceless when your kids ride with you and you think how they grow up so fast. But most of all it's so cute to see them ride with you and and 3 minutes later there sleeping from the smoothe ride and music puts them to sleep. If you let them ride with you you don't see them for weeks cuz your out harvesting. I hope something good happens to you during this harvest I think last year and this year weren't supposed to happen ! Keep it between the fence posts !

How in the world can you guys survive on 1 bu/acre or 15 bu/acre on the non-hailed areas? Even on a good year with moisture and no hail, you are all happy with 30 bu/acre! The price has usually been $4.50/ bu. I have seen the videos where you don't skimp on the inputs of the crop and these aren't cheap and never seem to go down. You have 3 families to support on top of it, work on your own equipment to save money but there is so much more that meets the eye---fuel, insurance, interest payments, family living, housing costs, maintenance, utilities, etc...I have been a farmer for 50 yrs on some decent acreage paying 50% cash rent for 1 person on fairly good land without rocks, and if i get two big repairs for the year, I have no profit.. I just can't see how you turn a profit for family living and farming inputs every year. Yea, youtube can bring some funds in but might pay for a couple pallets of seed at the most. Enlighten me so I know what I am doing wrong....

It depends on when we get the rain on corn any soybeans however it is the amount of water has fallen prior to the rain coming. If the ground is really wet it might take the ground freezing before we get back in the field as a worst case. As far as dampness in the corn and beans. Unless the corn is dripping wet and if you can get the trash over the screens without plugging the screens and then having the shelled corn going out the back of the combine its ok because we dry the corn anyway when the grain is to damp. Soybeans is a lot like wheat or peas, we take the grain out of pods so they have a tendency drawl dampness through the night and get tough and plug the combine and not get the soybean out of the pods. I am sure your air at night is much more dryer.

At least you are not shovelling sand/dirt out of your header, I've had to do that some years and put up with 1 to 12 bu crops year after year. That was before the farm sold and moved state bought a smaller farm had a flood, 3 droughts, a wet year (we did get some good crop up to or more 60bu) and now another wet year while you have a dry one. That is what you get when you live on the other side of the world(Australia).I had to convert bags to bu for you.
